The Passage (Animal Farm) #6

Please choose one passage from the novel that is significant to you.
Why is this passage meaningful? Please type it into one of your entries
And comment on what you think about the passage.
There are many passages that I found to be engaged and significant to me. Moreover, I have found a passage which is about pigs changing 7 commandments so that pig, themselves have more privileges. There are no doubts that this is not a significant passage because, this is so true in our world. Everyone who has power over someone else is always greedy. They want more and more out of others. In addition, people are keeping demanding that everyone should be equal; the only problem is that they are not being equal with other person. A person whom has power always has privileges. This passage is so powerful because what George Orwell is thinking throughout the book is so true. Every bad thing that we found in the book, we can find same mistakes in our own world, in government or ourselves. This passage makes other people think that pigs are greedy and bad however, what we really should think about is that we might be like pigs that are greedy and wanted more power and money over someone else. Even though we might not be one of them, we have to keep thinking about because in this sinful nature, human beings are born to sin. Moreover, at least once in a life time, we will be like the pigs that we think are bad. To think religiously through this passage, God treats us and wants us to be equal to one another and God loves us equally. However, in the passage, pigs are changing commandments because they want more privileges for themselves. If these pigs are us, we are not going to be loved by God unless we ask for forgiveness. One of the verses says that we have to do unto others as you want them to do to you. Pigs or we have to make the world more equal so that everyone could be happy. Being selfish and greedy might be good for few months or years but it is not going to last long time. So, none of the people should be like the pigs in the text because eventually the hurting ones are going to be the pigs.

The Setting (Animal Farm) #5

are there any settings in this novel which you have found to be
beautiful? or disturbing? or memorable? describe these settings and
Comment on why they were meaningful to you.
The setting of the book, “Animal Farm” is basically an imaginary farm in England. I don’t think the setting is beautiful, because a lot of kinds of animals are living in one place. Moreover, pigs are there too. So, I don’t think it is beautiful in anyway. In addition, it is disturbing but not that much. The setting itself is just disturbing because first of all, farm is just dirty and loud because of different kinds of animals. Since the setting of the book is just one place, I don’t really have a choice to find some settings that are beautiful and some settings are disturbing. The setting of the book is memorable because not many of the books chose farm as their setting. Moreover, looking at farm like our world and animals are metaphors for human. It is very interesting as a reader to read this kind of book. As I said, the setting of the story is an imaginary farm around 1918-1945. Some comments that I could make about the setting of the story is that it was creative for George Orwell to view the world like a farm and looking at people like different animals. Moreover how he had made so similar to reality. I think it was creative. It was kind of meaningful to me because not just the plot of the book struck me, but also the setting did. The setting is very astonishing because it happens to be so similar. As I kept thinking about the setting and the plot, as more and more I think in depth, I can see why George Orwell had chosen a farm to be the place of setting. The reason is simple in a farm many of different kinds of animals meet and live together. It is similar to our world. We meet different kinds of people and live with them in the same apartment, city, and country. So there is a close connection between a farm and our world. So the setting of the story is very creative, good and very memorable because of the reasons that I have mentioned already.

The Main Characters (Animal Farm) #4

Who are the main characters in the novel? Do you like them? Why or
Why not? What is special about them? What do they reveal about the
Universal human experience?
In the book “Animal Farm” doesn’t have stated the main characters however; the characters who are round characters are Napoleon, Snowball, Boxer and Squealer.
Napoleon is a character who leads the story line, who is the leader of other pigs and other animals. Napoleon is a pig.
Snowball is another pig who is against Napoleon. He is another character who leads the story line until the climax where Napoleon kicks Snowball out of the farm with his trained dogs.
Boxer is a horse that is really strong and loyalty. Throughout the story, Boxer later things that Napoleon is always right which is wrong.
Squealer is a pig who spreads the words of Napoleon. Basically, since Napoleon himself doesn’t speak out to the rest of the animals, Squealer tell other animals for Napoleon.
Theses are some of the main characters of “Animal Farm” and some details about them.
I don’t like any of the characters in Animal Farm because they all have things that I hate. What I hate about it is that it is very similar to now days and citizens and government cannot solve this problem. Moreover, I am not a pig or any animal’s fan except dogs, so.
The special thing about them is that they have some of the characteristics that humans have. It reveals that pigs are greedy and dirty moreover very selfish which our governmental people are. In addition, the other animals represent us, which it reveals that we have diversity of people around us. The universal human experience that they reveal is people with power rule over others whether it is good for people or bad for people. In the text or in reality, people who have power have some people who follow after them and obey them. In the world, there are powerful people and weak people. Someone who is better than our self, we can’t say anything to them. However, if we are better, we talk over them. That is what the main characters are revealing about. In addition, even though I don’t like the characters in the book, it is interesting and fun to read because the author, Orwell is very metaphorical. It was fun.

The Mood (Animal Farm) #3

What is the mood of this novel? do you find this novel saddens you in
any way? Why?
In the book “Animal Farm” there is a lot of moods that could be mentioned. The mood of this novel is sad, dark, happy, and moods that leads to bad sides. The happy mood part of the story is where the animals first have defeated the owner of the farm. Napoleon and Snowball, two leaders in the farm, made plan and kick the owner out of the farm which made them two leaders of the farm. All the animals felt free, happy and all bright. However, starting from this point of the story, the mood of sad, dark, and moods of bad occurs. When pigs in the farm had starting showing some leadership, they were way beyond the expectation of the other animals. However, things got worse and pigs started becoming selfish. Other animals feel betrayed, sad that pigs are becoming like the owner in the old days. Moreover, the other animals are all in the bad mood because of Napoleon doing things just for him and other animals having not enough freedom. In addition, at the last Napoleon became like a human and sleeps on the bed like human and negotiate with other farm owners. The act of Napoleon made other animals in the farm feel sad, disappointed, and betrayed and into the dark mood. It saddens me because as I said in the other post, the act of Napoleon is similar to every government in the world. The governmental people, at last thinks about themselves. Moreover, it came out in the news that even though governmental people had enough money to help the poor but rather than helping, they were using money for entertainment for themselves. In addition, the citizens had criticized them, in now days; some of the governmental people are still like that.
Another reason why the mood saddens me is because the animals in the farm cannot disagree or disobey Napoleon. He had too much power for himself that the farm couldn’t change. In addition, they can’t even speak to him about their opinion, and follow what they have chosen for them to do. So, these two reasons sadden me.

The Climax (Animal Farm) #2

What is the climax of this novel? what happens? how do the events of
this novel make you feel?
In the book “Animal Farm,” disagreement between Snowball and Napoleon builds up the climax. The climax of this novel is when Napoleon, one of the leaders of the pigs, make Snowball, the other pig go out of the farm so that Napoleon can have power over the entire farm. Napoleon uses his trained dogs to make Snowball go out because the dogs had a great power, or the actual strength. Over a problem, Napoleon and Snowball had disagreed about each other’s opinion and because of disagreement, the conflict between them have started. Moreover, basically, this situation changes everything around the farm because, now Napoleon and the other pigs want to have power over and from this point, it cannot go back to the old days. The climax of the story is actually very interesting to me, because, in now days, the government doing like the climax. If one of the governmental people has power, then most of other governmental people follow after the guy and kicks governmental people who disagree with him, who have power. In addition, it is interesting that pigs use trained dogs to kick Snowball out, in now days; governmental people use gangsters around and pay them to kick governmental people who disagree. Moreover, it makes me sad too, because in the book, other animals had to obey pigs and in reality, same thing goes on. If government has problem, we could protest but unless a lot of people are involved, the citizens cannot argue with the government. However, it is good that countries are developing and governments try their best to have no conflict with the citizens. The climax of the story was unexpected for me because I thought Napoleon and Snowball will keep cooperating with each other. Since Napoleon had the trained dogs, I thought Snowball had some secret animals that he owned. So it was a bit shocking but it was predictable because if people have two arguments, one of them have to lose. So the climax was interesting, sad but fun.

The Theme (Animal Farm) #1

What is the major theme of this novel? why is this theme important to a teenager living in 2007?
There are several major themes in this novel, however, what I think it is most important theme is that language or the words that come from your mouth is to control other people, meaning since man are selfish and have pride, they want to control or have people under us. Moreover, by language, it makes other people think in different way and do something that are actually good for me. In the book, “Animal Farm” the pigs got power after Major had died, moreover, pigs became selfish of themselves and played with words and had more power over the whole animal, had nevertheless, they became like humans who wanted everything for their own benefits. So, the theme is, by we should not change other people’s decisions or their visuals on the world by twisting the meanings of the words that you use. For now day’s example, we often do it when we give peer pressure in a bad way where we know it is bad but by twisting the meaning, we try to show only the good parts. This theme is important because since the technology is developed than the past, we have more ways to communicate with other people, such as friends and people we even don’t know. Moreover, we often use words to control other people. For example, we act nicely to others so that they will do something for me. Since teenagers living in 2007 had already experienced and it always happens, it should stop. The universal truth is that no body likes to follow other people’s order unless they respect them. However, they want others to follow their orders. So, they twist words to make them follow. Moreover, that is starting to happen from period of teenagers. Moreover, if we could prevent it from period of teenagers, we could not have this problem when we get older. So, the theme is we should not be twisting words to control other people and it is important for teenagers living in 2007 because they are already twisting words and it should be prevented. That’s why it is important for teenagers.

Welcome!

Greetings Ladies and Gentle man~!

I am reading Fahrenheit 451 for my first blogging novel.

enjoy reading my blogs.

The Setting

To me, both time setting and place setting of the novel is very memorable to me. The time setting is in 21st century, there have been two atomic wars since 1990. Then the place setting is around an unspecified city. It is disturbing in some way but also I like the setting because it is mysterious. However, the disturbing part of the setting is that it does not relate to what I know. You never know because it will be very different between 20th centaury and 21st centaury. So, it is disturbing because I can't picture the setting of the story. Since the time setting and place setting is mysterious, I think it is very interesting for the readers of the novel because we, readers can imagine how it might look like in the future, in other word, setting could be depend on the reader. Because it is unique, different from the other novels, it is very memorable. It is also unique, because, the setting is about having atomic war since 1990. I would never thought of a setting having atomic war among the world. So it is easily come to my mind and stuck in my head. I'm not sure about setting being beautiful because the setting is not meant to be beautiful since the setting is mysterious, I don't think it could be beautiful. In fact, I don't even think the setting could be anything positive such as happy, content or joy. It just doesn't match with this novel. Lastly, I think the author had thought about the setting a lot because it seems the setting is very difficult to think of it. In addition, I think the author is very smart to think of an idea like this. So, I really like the setting of this story because it is in the future and the setting is mysterious.

The Significant Passage

"Hand it over, Guy," said Beatty with s fixed smile.
And then he was a shrieking blaze, a jumping, sprawling gibbering manikin, no longer human or known, all writhing flame on the lawn as Montag shot one continuous pulse of liquid fire on him. There was a hiss like a great mouthful of spittle banging a red-hot stove, a bubbling and frothing as if salt had been poured over a monstrous black snail to cause a terrible liquefaction and a boiling over of yellow foam. Montag shut his eyes, shouted shouted, and fought to get his hands at his ears to clamp and to cut away the sound. Beatty flopped over and over and over and at last twisted in on himself like a charred wax doll and lay silent. From page 119.
I think this passage is unique. It is not significant as it should be however, it is the climax of the story and it is important to this book. I think this passage stands out from the other passages because it involves burning, death, and horrified mood. The word choice and description of this passage was very interesting and it is significant to me because first of all, to read this part of the book, I kept reading the book and one of my old friends almost died because he stayed in the burning house. So I could get a good idea of what might have been if my friend was on fire! Also, I could think of situations in Korea that once in 2002 or 2003, Dae Gu subway had been burn and most of the people in there had died because they could not breathe. Another situation is South Gate in Korea burned down. Both of these serious events involved fire, burning and some kind of death to it, I think it made a lot of people sad. So, when I first heard about burning and fire, first thing that came into my mind is death. So, it is significant to not only me, but to all Koreans if you see it in big idea. As I said earlier, I think the world choice of the passage is really good because it says; there was a hiss like a great mouthful of spittle banging a red-hot stove which reveals how painful it will be. I could say that touching red-hot stove is very painful because it is too hot! Then it says a bubbling and frothing as if salt had been poured over a monstrous black snail to cause a terrible liquefaction and a boiling over of yellow foam. Every sentence could be like a metaphor, I could think of some images behind this. Montag shut his eyes, shouted shouted, and fought to get his hands at his ears to clamp and to cut away the sound. Beatty flopped over and over and over and at last twisted in on himself like a charred wax doll and lay silent. So, Beatty had died because he is burned. So, what it makes it more interesting is word choice, by making the passage more in-depth and more realistically, I think the passage is very good and interesting.

The Mood

The mood of this book is useful, dramatic, sad, and lost because, as the story goes along, basically, the book "Fahrenheit 451" is about Guy Montag wanting to save the books which are important to us. Moreover, it is suspenseful because you never know what is going to happen, he might burn it or keep it secretly and save the books. In addition, the mood is dramatic because once Guy Montag was obedient to Beatty however, eventually; Guy Montag ends up killing Beatty which is very dramatic and sudden change I think. The mood of the book is sad because, almost 2 out 4 main character dies. For Beatty, Guy Montag kills, in other word burns him to death and Guy Montag's wife, Mildred Montag attempts suicide and at last, she dies also. Moreover, Professor Faber leaves Guy Montag alone. Therefore, Guy Montag becomes alone and it is sad to lost close people from you. At last, the mood or the tone of the story is lost. Guy Montag is lost here in the book. Guy Montag is not sure about what he is doing until the point where he asks help from the professor Faber. It seems to me that Guy Montag is almost always lost in some point and that lead me to say that the mood or the tone is lost. Another mood that I could say is joy. Because of the fact that Guy Montag is finding or re-knowing the fact that there are good source that he could look up and find stuffs from the book. Moreover, I think it is a great pleasure to discover things like that. Even though throughout the book it involves killing others, I think from time to time, the mood changes to joy. In addition, in the last part of the book, Guy Montag finds a group of people who looks for the books and tries to save the books from burning. So I would say mood could be joy. As I said, this novel saddens me in the point where it tells me that in the future the books are going to be burned, or disappeared from our world and if this is true then I would be very sad because even though I not a reading person, I still want to read from time to time. In addition, as I said, the mood of the story could be sad and that makes me sad because loneliness is not very good. Being alone, could be the worst situation that you could ever experience. So, these things make me sadden.

The Climax

The climax of the book, "Fahrenheit 451," is the part where Guy Montag kills Beatty, the boss of the fire station. This is the climax of the story because, from this point of the book, Guy Montag and Beatty cannot be as same as the old times. In this part, Guy Montag, Mildred Montag and Beatty was all together, however, because of some reason, Mildred Montag rode taxi and left Guy Montag, Beatty and fireman. Beatty makes Guy Montag to burn everything including the house itself. Of course, Guy Montag followed his directions and burns everything. After a hard work of burning everything, Beatty now says that he is going to under arrest Guy Montag because he burned the house. Then the radio went on and Beatty was talking to a guy. Moreover, Guy Montag did not wanted to get arrested so he points the flamethrower at Beatty and shoots at him. Eventually, Beatty was burned until it became crisp. But the other fireman could not do anything to Guy Montag since he was still holding the flamethrower. This is what the climax was told to us by the book. I think it is very exciting and interesting to me. However, it is kind of scary. It makes me exciting and interesting because, it involves killing and burning a person. In addition, having guts to shoot at Beatty and burning the guy, I think most of us can't do it. So, it is very interesting and exciting to me. But in other side, it is kind of scary because a person is burning another guy because Guy Montag doesn't want to get under arrested by Beatty. Moreover, people would do anything to survive and turning a person into crisp could be one of the options. Therefore, it is scary that Guy Montag just did it

The Theme

Through reading the book "Fahrenheit 451,” the major theme of this novel is that due to the fact that people tend to have different activities going on such as watching TV, listen to music and everything got faster and easier that people just go out and be busy. Moreover, because of the fact that everyone is busy and hurried, they have no quite place to read and concentrate on books for days and days. In addition, by the fact that people don't wanting to be worse than people who read more books than us, we tend to hate people who read books a lot. So, because of this reasons, the books will disappear in the future. So even though, these are the factors that might make books disappear from the world, we should keep reading books to get knowledge and to calm ourselves. Therefore, we should think books as valuable source of knowledge.
This Theme is very important to every teenager in nowadays because, teenagers are people who feel like they are ignored and worse than others because others read more books than them and those parents often make teenagers read books. So we think that books are just boring but we are required to read just because our parents are telling us to. In addition, since the technology is developed, teenagers are who adopted these facts very fast. We know how to get information from the internet, how to search, and download things. I think the "quickest" people in the world are teenagers because they always try new things and discover things from the internet. So, due to the fact that teenagers are spending a lot of time using computers, we have no time to read books and get interested in book. In addition, we are competitive on everything and by knowing that people who read more books than us, we tend to hate those people who are smart. Moreover, some of the guys who doesn't like to read books, they just buy the books and not read which is like disappearing. So, teenagers are really related to the theme of the book and it is important for us teenagers to know that reading books are good and being concentrated in one thing is good. We are too close to technology things that we have no time. So, it is important to teenagers.

Main Characters

There are four main characters in the book, "Fahrenheit 451.” The main characters are professor Faber, Captain Beatty, Mildred Montag, and Guy Montag. Guy Montag is the guy who is a fire man that later on, who tries to look and save books from others who wants to burn those books because it makes them confused and they don't think it is good for them. Moreover, throughout the story, he changes a lot. So, I like Guy Montag because, he tries to save something that is valuable even though he might become danger. I consider him as hero because, if the story was true, Montag is the guy who can step up from the other guys and say "I am doing this, I don't care if you like it or not" and change it. So, I like Guy Montag.
Mildred Montag, who is the wife of Guy Montag who loves to watch TV has a problem Mildred is one of the character that is like the other people, in other word, in this story, she is the normal one. Throughout the plot, in mentions about people stopped reading and watch TV and fool around all the time. Moreover, she keeps attempts to suicide which I think it means that she has no hope, she doesn't want to live like this, she is in pain and that's why she is trying to die. I like Mildred Montag because it is the character that shows an example of the opposition of the main character which in this story, having no feeling to the outside world. Just watching TV is everything for her.
Captain Beatty, the boss of Guy Montag which is the head of the fire station, is another main character in this book. The contribution that Captain Beatty had made was that he kept persuading Guy Montag that book just makes people confused and it is waste of time to read books because almost all the books contains the same meaning to it. Moreover, he tells Guy Montag to burn the books and live like the way he used to live. So Captain Beatty builds up the tension of the story. I don’t like Captain Beatty because he only talks about the negative parts of the books and just wanting to destroy all the books because he have no feeling to the nature, to the world. Moreover, Captain Beatty is the antagonist, so I just don’t like him.
Lastly, Professor Faber, who is a professor that talked with Guy Montag before and that Guy Montag thought that the professor can help him. Professor Faber is one of the main characters. Professor Faber helps by telling Guy Montag that he is not the only guy who is feeling about the nature. So, he is one of the guys that are protagonist of the book. I like Professor Faber because he is a good person and helps the main character to solve the problem that he has.
The universal human experience that they reveal is that all the humans have feelings about everything; sad, happy, and love. In this book, “Fahrenheit 451,” most of the people does have feelings to it, it just described as them being concentrated in to the TV and trying to get rid of the books. So the universal human experience is that everyone has feeling to the nature, to the outside world and you cannot hide that.
